Hi Springfield Moms! Who else is tired of Googling “things to do with kids in Springfield” and coming up short?
Yeah, me too. That’s why I started Dear Springfield Mama, a weekly email for those of us who are busy but also hungry to live a more present and connected life.
A few weeks ago, I sent out a simple survey to local moms, expecting maybe 20 women to respond. More than 200 did.
And what they shared felt deeply familiar. We’re all craving connection with nature, connection with this town, and for the love of God, the answer to “what’s for dinner?”
So what will be in the email?
Out of 10 topic areas, a huge majority asked for these three things:
- Outdoor places to explore
- Things to do
- At-home dinner ideas
(That said, there was strong support for the other topics, too!)
Since I am just one person—and a busy mother myself!—I’ll be focusing on the topics you asked for most, especially the outdoors. I’ll sample from the other topics as time allows.
Where are we going from here?
I’m not here to add to your noise. I’m hoping to be the mute button—a quiet, simple email that gets you living life in Springfield with less friction, less searching.
Long-term, I hope this becomes more than a helpful newsletter. I hope it nudges us to step outside again. To notice the way Springfield feels in late summer. To meet up at the river, or wave at a neighbor, or care just a little more about the parks and paths we share.
I’ve got some work to do before the first edition comes out!
In the meantime, I’ll be testing out trails and parks, poking around grocery aisles, and flipping through field guides.
Do you have a friend who might like Dear Springfield Mama when it launches? Forward this email to them so they can sign up!
Happy summer!
