Riverside Inn Park: A local Ozark swimming hole

Kids floating at Riverside Inn Park in Ozark

The spot: Riverside Inn Park. Ignore the word “park,” because there’s nothing park-like about it. It’s a nearly hidden spot on the Finley that makes the perfect swimming hole to take kids of all ages.

The GPS coordinates take you to a small gravel parking lot. Get out and walk toward the tree line until you see an opening and a dirt path. Descend to the gravel bar, where you’ll find a swimming hole with cold, clear water and rope swings. By this time in August, the water level is lower, meaning you’ll find more wading spots than deeper pools. (To check exact water levels, visit this government website). The current is gentle and perfect for children.

It’s close enough to Springfield to be a weekday, after-work jaunt with the kids!

I send a “things to do” email every Sunday night to tons of moms in the Springfield, Mo. area. It’s full of free, often outdoorsy ideas that always match the season we’re in.
