Lindenlure swimming hole near Ozark: How to find it

Lindenlure: This hard-to-find location on the Finley, which features cool water for wading and swimming, has been a popular destination for locals since the 1940s. That said, with no signage and no parking lot, many people drive right by without knowing it’s there. Some (wrongly) think it’s private property (it’s not).

Locals will give you mixed reviews of Lindenlure. Some have fond memories of catching crawdads and swimming under the refreshing falls on a hot summer day. Others will tell you it’s a party spot and to watch out for discarded beer cans.

Personally, I love coming here on a weekday or early in the morning, when it’s quiet and only other moms with young children are around. I’ve never seen a beer can. And if I did, it wouldn’t ruin the beauty of Lindenlure.

In late August, the water is low. Expect to find pockets of trapped water, where you can look for critters, and plenty of splashing and wading. There is a current, so bring floaties for peace of mind and caution the kiddos of slippery rocks.

Location

Linden, Missouri (not far from Ozark and a quick drive from Springfield). Exit Missouri 125 west on Canyon Rd. Park along the street and walk to the water. (Google Maps link)

What does Lindenlure swimming hole look like?

These photos were taken in July, when the water levels were fairly high. Later in the summer it’ll be more shallow.
