Homemade pizza night has become one of our favorite weekly traditions, and it’s way easier (and so much cheaper) than you might think. Most of the effort is just waiting for the dough to rise, which means I get to kick back with a glass of wine while dinner practically makes itself.
Once the toppings are on, the whole pizza bakes up golden and crisp for less than the price of a frozen DiGiorno. Simple, budget-friendly, and always a hit with guests or on a cozy Friday night at home.
1-Hour Pizza Dough
Makes one 14-inch pizza
Ingredients
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup warm water
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 ½ tsp sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
Instructions
- In a stand mixer, combine all ingredients and knead on low for 10 minutes. (Or stir in a bowl, then knead by hand on a floured counter for the same amount of time.)
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 425°F with a pizza stone inside.
- On a floured counter, gently press down and stretch the dough into a 14-inch circle. Watch this video for help on how to do this! Move it quickly onto a piece of parchment paper (if you go too slowly, gravity will tear it).
- Spread your sauce and toppings over the dough while it’s on the parchment.
- Slide the parchment onto the hot stone and bake for 5 minutes. Then carefully pull the parchment out so the crust sits directly on the stone. Continue baking another 5–7 minutes, until the crust is golden and sounds hollow when tapped.
No-Cook Pizza Sauce
Makes about 1 ½ cups
Ingredients
- 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp dried basil
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp salt
Instructions
- Stir everything together in a small bowl.
- Spread evenly over your shaped pizza dough. Store remainder in freezer for next pizza night. That’s it!
