Lake Springfield: The hilltop park that makes autumn feel extra golden

Hilltop Pavilion at Lake Springfield Park has swings and a playground.

The Hilltop Pavilion playground and park at Lake Springfield: This playground and park, located at the top of a hill overlooking Lake Springfield, is one of my favorite spots in Springfield. In early autumn, the tips of the trees are tinged with oranges and browns, and the swing set is perfectly positioned to make the most of the lake view. Follow one of several dirt paths down to the water, where you can skip rocks, marvel at blue herons, or just sit and watch dragonflies skim over aquatic plants.

There’s a shaded pavilion with picnic tables for larger gatherings, which makes it a popular spot for playdates and homeschool groups.

Heads up: There’s no brick-and-mortar bathroom, but a porta-potty is on-site.

Location

2010 E Lake Springfield Park Rd, Springfield, MO 65804

What to bring

  • Hand sanitizer
  • Lunch or snacks for under the pavilion
