Battlefield’s epic playground is worth the drive from Springfield

Battlefield City Park main playground

Battlefield City Park: This is the park that eats other local parks for breakfast. It’s the queen of all playgrounds. Brought to my attention by a reader who lives in Battlefield, this park was apparently unveiled in late 2022. That said, I had never heard of it! If I had known it existed, I would not have cried to my husband on a recent family vacation to San Diego that “only big cities get the good playgrounds!”

The Battlefield playground has everything a multimillion-dollar urban park has and more, making it an ideal spot for kids and grown-ups of all ages.

It boasts a toddler-sized playground for littles, a massive play structure for older ones, a ZIP LINE with two seats (one with an inclusive harness), a rope climbing structure, instruments, swingsets with a huge variety of swings, a paved walking path with a nearby fountain, and so much more. Guys, there are shaded benches that actually face the playground

Since I was already frolicking around like a child myself, trying out the equipment that 90s playgrounds definitely never had, I happened to notice a structure across a field that caught my eye. Turns out, it’s a complete calisthenics gym for adults!

Leo and I played “The Floor is Lava” on the gray ground blocks, and I left with an invigorated thrill I haven’t felt in years. Finally, a park that acknowledges that grownups ALSO need exercise.
