Natural swimming holes in or near Springfield, Mo.
These four natural swimming holes are the closest to home, and make for an easy weekday excursion — even with little ones on board. All are right in the city limits or within a 15-minute drive.

Lost Hill Park
Type: Swimming/wading
Why go: This is my favorite swimming hole near Springfield, with clear, cool water, interesting rock formations and bluffs, and lots of fossils to dig up. There’s tons of tree cover here, so it’s easy to take refuge in the shade on a super hot day.
How to get there: Navigate to the address, park in the lot, and head south on the paved trail. Right at the swingset and play area, veer off the paved path and head across the grass toward the treeline. You’ll run into the South Dry Sac River. Follow the river north for a good swimming spot (pictured above).
Location: 4705 N Farm Rd 151, Springfield, Mo. 65803

Lindenlure
Type: Wading
Why go: This scenic spot is lovely if you like moving water. Lots of parents go earlier in the day, park lawn chairs in the rocks, and let their kids wade and hunt for crawdads. The current here can sometimes make me nervous, so I always put Leo in his life vest when he was little.
How to get there: Linden, Missouri (not far from Ozark and a quick drive from Springfield). Exit Missouri 125 west on Canyon Rd. Park along the street and walk to the water.
Location: Hard to find, so use this Google Maps link to take you to specific GPS coordinates.

Riverside Inn Park (Finley River)
Type: Swimming, wading
Why go: One of my favorite swimming holes, this river spot has been popular with locals forever. You’ll find several rope swings for climbing before plunging into this cool pool.
How to get there: Navigate to Riverside Inn Park and park in the gravel lot. Walk toward the tree line across a grassy area. There will be a few dirt paths under the trees that lead you to the water.
Location: 2629 N Riverside Rd, Ozark, Mo. 65721

Joe Crighton Access
Type: Swimming, wading
Why go: This is NOT my favorite wading spot, and I’ll be clear about that. There’s always excessive trash and graffiti, and we don’t love spending time here. That said, it’s really close to town and a convenient spot to splash and swim if you’re on a time crunch.
How to get there: Park in the gravel area and walk down to the water.
Location: 3100 S Farm Road 193, Springfield, Mo. 65809
NOTE: If you’re looking for a further drive or a weekend trip destination, check out the Springfield Daily Citizen’s story on roadtrip-worthy swimming holes! It’s a fantastic collection of bucket list spots.
Swimming beaches within 1 hour of Springfield, Mo.
Lake beaches are a great alternative to swimming holes, and can be especially relaxing with small children. The waters are calm, the sand is endlessly entertaining, and there’s not much terrain to traverse before settling into a lawnchair and enjoying the view.

Moonshine Beach — Table Rock Lake
Why go: This is a great spot for an all-day excursion. The water is typically warmer than rivers, gentle and great for young swimmers. Take an umbrella or shade tent, chairs and sand toys, and your little one will be happy for hours. Personally, I love bringing an inner tube and spinning circles in the water while the boats speed by.
How to get there: This beach has great parking and facilities. It’s $5 per car to get in and park, and you can pay with a card.
Location: 3778 Historic Hwy 165, Branson, Mo. 65616

Stockton Lake (5 beaches)
Why go: The Corps of Engineers offers five designated safe swimming areas on Stockton Lake: Stockton Beach, Orleans Trail Beach, Ruark Bluff Beach, Cedar Ridge Beach, and Masters Beach. The beaches offer a safe swimming area, picnic areas, vault toilets, and ample parking. In addition to these amenities, Stockton Beach, and Ruark Bluff Beach have playgrounds, and Ruark Bluff Beach also has a volleyball area and basketball court.
Day use fee is $1.00 per person or $5.00 maximum charge per vehicle load. Children 15 and under are free.
Location: All 5 swimming locations are on my map at the top of this story.
