Burns Bodacious Berries — Ozark, Mo.

We loaded several pounds of strawberries to make quick jams, frozen treats, and pie. (Photo by Brittany Meiling)

This young farm in Ozark, Mo. is run by a homeschooling family, and a friendly Farmer Jason was out in the field to greet us and tell us how it works, which berries were best, and all the fun things he’s got planned. One of the only U-Pick strawberry fields open after a rainy night, we were delighted to find rows and rows of monstrous, plump, and perfectly ripe berries.

My 5-year-old son was told by the farmer that he could eat until his belly was bursting while his mama filled her buckets, and Leo did not back down from that invitation. With strawberry juice dripping down his chin and cheeks, he proclaimed this outing the best day ever.

Farmer Jason said they should have strawberries for the next six weeks! Pay attention to their Facebook page, because U-Pick flowers, vegetables, watermelons, and pumpkins are coming in phases.
